ASSOCIATION of KINDRED CLUBS OF N. Z. Inc
From your Secretary
Welcome to our Association’s October newsletter.
The news for this month is mainly about the members of our Executive meeting for our first time after the telephone Conference in June this year. The meeting was assembled at Blenheim after celebrating the 50 year anniversary of the Blenheim Orphans Club.
One of the great acknowledgements was to see two of the foundation members still active in the Club. These men were Ken Ham and Pete Scammell who have led this Club along successfully with the assistance of a number of fine members (and their wives).
celebration was very successful with a dinner and items interspersed between courses.
Your Association Secretary was surprised when a cake was presented to the Macandrew Bay Orphans’ & Entertainers Club noting their centennial year and that
Club was the original sponsors of the Blenheim Club.
However, following the Executive meeting and lunch at the Broadbridges on the Sunday your Dominion President Wayne Climo, wife Gaylene, Eileen and myself, joined P.D.P Ken Ham and Karenne in their
motor boat to Maraetai Bay where we were to spend about a week relaxing. The four visiting members each contracted Covid and so we spent two really enjoyable weeks isolating at the Bay. A perfect place to isolate. Memorable times and many
to Ken and Karenne for so generously hosting us.
A number of the Clubs will be closing down for the summer break or at least looking towards their A.G.M’s. Could you please forward your Club’s programme for the 2023 season as soon as possible.
To get the timetable out, at least, before the Clubs restart I require the dates etc by the 30th January 2023.
Thank you to the Nelson and Eltham Clubs for sending me their newsletters. It is much appreciated and I would like
to see your Clubs newsletters if you produce one.
Sadly, I have to report the deaths of four of the members or wives.
They are Doreen Harris, wife of Allan, who was the Central group President and President of the Taradale Savage Club.
Gaelene Riddle, wife of Peter from the Eltham Savage Club. Gaelene was a great supporter of the Savage Club and attended
Barney Simpson, from the Eltham Savage Club, who was a great stage performer and worker around the Club premises.
Betty Duggan, wife of Ted who was a long time member of the Whanganui Savage Club. Betty was a great supporter
of the Whanganui Club and all Western Group Clubs.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the families of the deceased.
From your Dominion President.
Hello to all, it seems the year has just
flown by, and as the saying goes it won’t be long and it’ll be Christmas, which is now so true.
Congratulations to the Blenheim Orphan’s Club on a successful weekend celebrating their 50th anniversary.
The weekend was very well organised and run like clockwork, with an impromptu get together the Friday evening, for those who were around, and a cabaret evening on the Saturday. I must also thank the Blenheim members for their assistance with organising getting
the elected Executive members together for their first face to face meeting. It was good to get everyone together who were able to make it.
By the time you receive this newsletter you’ll be into your AGM’s or you may have already had
them. Something that has been brought to the notice of the Executive is that there is a lack of interest from members to fill committee positions, and it’s left to the same people year on year. While these people have been happy to fill those positions,
and some still are, I would like to encourage you to think, at your AGM’s, about a succession plan to fill positions for future years. I appreciate there are a number of obstacles we have to deal with today, which were not there before, making things
more difficult, but I’m sure someone would be willing to fill positions, if given a bit of encouragement and support.
Another matter that you will see in the Executive minutes is the most generous donation of $20,000 to the Association
of Kindred Clubs from Macandrew Bay Orphans and Entertainers Club, which I thank them for, whole heartedly. This has come at a time where we have had 2 of the larger clubs resign from the Association, and we were facing a rise in affiliation fees. The donation
has allowed us to leave the affiliation fees set as they were at $5.00 at least for another term.
Wishing you all well and keep safe
